I was determined to grow more than a handful of lemons this year, so I went all out and actually fertilized our tree. The results were amazing! That little tree gave us about 100 lbs. of lemons! Who knew all it needed was a little bit of fertilizer? Well, some of YOU people probably knew, but I do not have a green thumb.

I faithfully fertilized and watered that tree and we had more lemons than we knew what to do with. We actually sold some of them to a local organic produce supplier and gave away a lot of them to our friends. Today, I decided to strip the rest of the lemons from the bottom of the tree. It didn't give them up easily and it was really more like a bloodletting on my part. I was poked full of holes by the time I was finished. Then came the daunting task of figuring out what to do with all those lemons!

I decided to put the girls to work with my little juicer. They worked at it for a long time and got a huge pitcher full of juice. We made some lemonade and will freeze the rest of the juice to use for lemonade for the rest of the summer. I still have a large bowl left to deal with, so I made some lemon bread. What now? Lemon chicken, lemon pancakes, lemon sorbet, lemon cheesecake... Anyone have any good lemon ideas for me?

We took our fresh lemonade outside and drank it while the girls played with their new hula hoops. I was finally able to find the type that we like at Walmart the other day. They are Wave Hoops, filled with water. They are heavier and much easier for the girls to use. Yeah! It's the little things in life...

Off to enjoy some lemon bread and tuck the kids into bed!
