Jillian’s Home (and she brought a friend with her)

It was just a typical gastro-intestinal virus that knocked her out, but a little TLC went a long way.

After the meals in bed and movies on command, our little diva was not looking forward to coming home from the hospital. The other factor was that she was afraid it was going to hurt when they removed her IV. She doesn't like getting a band-aid removed, so all that tape had her a little worried. The bait that made it all worthwhile was a trip to the "brave box", where she picked up "Elizabeth" the polar bear.
We got home yesterday around 4:00. I sprayed Lysol on our shoes and we headed straight to the shower to remove any hospital germs. Yuck! I hate to think of what we might have brought home with us.
Jillian was crabby and tired and went to bed very early last night. She was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed this morning and back to making all of her usual sounds. For those of you that don't know Jillian, she is quite a piece of work. Living with her is a lot like living with a cartoon character. She whistles better than any other person I know and can whistle breathing in and out, so she never has to stop. She sings a lot, too and just makes funny little sounds. When she and Emily were both sick, our house was so quiet that it was creepy. As much as the noise can bother me at times, I much prefer that to having little girls that are too sick to talk.
I didn't get much reading done in the hospital, but I did take a book with me called, 'The Mission of Motherhood' by Sally Clarkson. I underlined this paragraph and thought I would share it with all of you moms. The chapter was titled "The Servant Mother". It touched my heart, especially since I have been on-call 24/7 since Wednesday night with sick children.
"It is certainly important to grasp the great calling of motherhood and respond to a vision for what a family can be. But it's the way I respond to my children in everyday moments that give me the best chance of winning their hearts. If I have integrity and patience in the small moments of life that are so important to my children, and if I approach them with a servant's heart, then I have a far better chance of influencing them in the larger and more critical issues of life."
Good stuff to ponder and pray about. I need to have a true servant's heart for my family everyday and not be irritated when I am interrupted or called upon to do menial tasks. I need to serve them like Jesus served his disciples the night before he was crucified. He did not sit back and take the night off, knowing that he would have a rough time the next day. He looked every moment in the eye and took the opportunity to serve and be a good example.
Thank you for praying for our sweet Jillian.
