We redo the rooms, and marvel at the beauty (and enormity) of the new triple bunk beds.

Bedzilla #1
The bed that ate the room... In this picture, we're not yet done with the lettering over the window.
"They looked so cute in the catalog." Indeed they did, and much smaller. In these bedrooms, with no corner to tuck them in, they pretty much take over the place. That's OK--they're wonderful beds, high-quality, and they'll last us many years. What's a bedroom for, anyway? For beds! Who needs to store shoes in there, too?
Kristen and I labored (with about as much equity as real labor) to finish up the rooms as quickly as possible. The finishing touch was hand-painting the fruit of the Spirit over the windows. I printed up some stencils, and Kristen transferred the letters to the wall with carbon paper. Add one thin brush and a steady hand, and voila! Adorable letters. Thanks, Jeannie, for the idea.
The rooms turned out even better than we hoped. Kristen got bold and put some real color on the wall (gasp!), and the lavender/green and pink/green combos look wonderful. The painted flowers were labor-intensive, the "Wallies" flowers much easier. But both were well worth the effort. Most importantly, we had fun painting and laughing and staying up too late and getting loopy together. The girls even got into the act a little, rolling and brushing like it was in their genes. Because it is.
Their Mom is, and always has been, a painting machine. So if anyone needs help painting, give Kristen a call.
No, wait--strike that. Did we mention we're adopting from Ethiopia soon?
Here are a few more bedroom pictures for your viewing pleasure.
That's a Lot of Boxes! Before the beds took over the bedrooms, 24 large boxes bumped our cars out of the garage. (Loren's just pretending to look stumped--he actually loves this stuff.)
Pink and Green and Pretty FlowersThe challenge with decorating like this is making it look neither too regular nor deliberately random. It's a fine line!
