A Day at the Fair

We were off to the fair today to see the sights, smell the yummy smells, and find out if we won any ribbons! Our annual trek to the fair happened to fall on an unusually cool day.

For the third year in a row, one of Mackenzie's quilts won "Best of Show" for her division. We are so proud!

Anneliese's first quilt grabbed a third place ribbon. Way to go, Anneliese!

Kristen's patriotic quilt (on the right, with gold) won a 2nd place ribbon.

We are used to enduring the Shasta District Fair in 105-degree heat, so this year's cooler temperature of 85 degrees was a huge blessing.

The girls' quilts did very well. Mackenzie won 1st place and Best of Show for her quilt and Anneliese took 3rd place. Anneliese also entered a beach bag that she made in sewing class and earned a blue ribbon for that.

My quilt was entered in the special "stars and stripes" category, which was in honor of the fair theme, "A Red, White, and Blue A-fair". I got 2nd place for that and 2nd place for a quilted jacket that I made for Anneliese.

The highlight of the fair is always the animals. The girls love to pet all the pigs, cows, sheep and goats that they can get their hands on. Anneliese was busy admiring some rabbits when a lady came over and placed a sign on the cage, "Grand Champion Meat Rabbit". Anneliese read the sign and her eyes filled with tears as she asked, "Is that true? Do they really do that?"  Yes, honey, they do...

A funny bumper sticker came to my mind right then, but I opted to keep my mouth shut. "Meat is murder. Tasty, tasty murder!" Good call on my part, don't you think?
