Roller Coaster

It's a thrilling, frightening, whip-lash-inducing ride. It's international adoption!

International Adoption is Like...

With all the sudden acceleration and braking, twists and loops, international adoption can sometimes feel like a ride on a crazy roller coaster.

When you climb on a new roller coaster, you just have to trust that the engineers who designed it did their job well. You have put your life in their hands and hope to have a fun, safe ride and live to tell about it.

Climbing onto the ride called international adoption is much the same way. We carefully chose our agency based on the recommendation of others and we trust that they will do their job well. Ultimately, though, the outcome of our adoption rests entirely on the One who designed and engineered adoption in the first place. We know that He always does His job well, that He loves us, and that He knows what is best for us.

We've been through the long, slow climb of compiling paperwork and waiting for a referral. Then a referral for three precious kids sent us hurtling down the track, hands raised in the air. Now we're in the place where there are a lot of fast twists and loops, and we're hanging on for dear life. Our ride is not over yet, but we know that it will be soon. When our roller coaster stops, we will thank God that we are safe. We will walk away with smiles on our faces, laughter in our hearts, and some sadness for what we and others are leaving behind. Most importantly, we'll walk into a new life with three precious new children.

We heard from our agency this week that the judge in our third child's case may hear our case again on Wednesday, Nov. 25th. Our file was only missing a recommendation letter from an entity in Ethiopia, so our adoption agency requested that our court date be moved up. Our other two children have already passed this hurdle and now legally belong to our family. We are praying that our case is heard early, and that we will receive good news on Wednesday that we have cleared this hurdle.

It has been difficult to plan our lives for the holidays, as we have been unsure of when we will be traveling. If we pass this court hearing, it looks like we will be going to Ethiopia around the first of the year. We have been offered a potential travel date the week before Christmas, but haven't been able to find a flight that has seats open and is affordable.

We hope to be able to share good news on the 25th. If not then, we will wait for our official court date on Dec. 9th.

Thanks for riding with us!
